Houston Dental Implants and Team Collaboration

Dental implant usage and technology have grown exponentially over the past 5 years.  From the surgical techniques to the functional and cosmetic results, there are so many variables and options to choose from.  There is no way that one dentist can truly be on the leading edge in all phases of treatment. Our patients today are looking for permanent esthetic options and are truly more informed about the possibilities than ever before.  In my opinion, this is fantastic, however, what is not fully understood is the amount knowledge, skill, and teamwork amongst various dental professionals that can help provide the best possible results. It is for this reason that a collaborative teamwork effort often allows our patients to receive optimal care so that their dental implants can last a long time, be esthetic, be functional, and healthy as well.  This is especially true in complex cases.  Each dental specialty offers a different skill set and knowledge that helps in treatment planning and surgical outcome. So where does a patient start?  In our office, I am personally quarterback all cases. This is important as the final result is what counts.  After planning the end results first, we then coordinate treatment with various specialist ranging from oral surgeons to periodontists and our lab technician as needed.  With each member of the team involved, our patients are best served. In overview, no one professional can be the “jack of all trades.” Team collaboration most often benefits the patient in terms of receiving the best possible care.
