If you suffer from chronic headaches or migraines, call Houston neuromuscular dentist Dr. Ronald Konig at 713-425-1302 and schedule a treatment consultation today

TMJ headaches are caused by pressure placed on the trigeminal nerve. This nerve provides sensation to nearly every area of the face and head and, when pressure is placed on it from a misaligned jaw, those sensations can be very unpleasant.

TMJ headaches often mimic migraines in intensity and duration, but treating these headaches with pain medications or BOTOX® will not provide lasting relief. Only when proper alignment is restored can pain be alleviated – and only an experienced neuromuscular dentist will be able to determine proper treatment and provide you with the services you need to eliminate your headaches for good.

Dr. Konig offers a range of TMJ headache treatment options including:

  • Muscle relaxation with TENS therapy and Iontophoresis
  • Myofunctional therapy to retrain the tongue
  • Pain relief splints to loosen muscles and ligaments
  • Neuromuscular orthotics to retrain muscles and hold the jaw in place

In some cases, pharmacological agents may be used to supplement TMJ treatment, but the goal is to eventually decrease or entirely eliminate your dependence on medications. Analgesics come with significant risks when used with regularity. The headache treatments offered at our Houston office can help you find freedom from pain medications as you find freedom from the source of the pain itself.

If you would like to learn more about nonsurgical headache treatments in Houston, The Woodlands, Katy, Sugar Land, or surrounding areas, please contact the Konig Center for Cosmetic & Comprehensive Dentistry today.
