Cosmetic Dentistry and Correcting Your Bite

Creating the optimal smile is not always about just placing porcelain veneers on teeth. Many patients  have bite problems that go untreated and is actually the reason that teeth break and are malpositioned in the first place. This case illustrates a patient referred by an endodonist for restorative care and cosmetic dentistry.  After discussing and evaluating this patient, he mentioned that his jaws clicked and popped, he was always clenching and had headaches as well.  Jaw pain was another complaint along with broken back teeth. Rather than only fix broken teeth and give a smile makeover, he elected to have TMJ treatment to stabilize his jaws and get rid of the pain first, then do the dental care to the corrected jaw/bite position.

Broken teeth and TMJ Patient

Treated for TMJ and Cosmetic Dentistry

Note the “drop off” in the back teeth is no longer there and the arch form is much more pleasant.  Additionally, the patient has no more TMJ pain, no clicking or popping joints, and a great smile. This case was completed with a combination of porcelain crowns, porcelain onlays and porcelain veneers.
