Worn teeth and broken teeth are often tell tale for misaligned bites and/or TMJ pain. It is easy to see how this ladies misaligned bite prematurely wore her teeth down. Notice she had multiple crowns placed through the years as they continued to break. She felt as if she did not have a home for her bite and suffered from facial pain as well as felt as if her face was aging too.
Dr. Konig treated this case in a manner of a non-surgical facelift in the dental office, first correcting her bite then restoring her teeth to the correct physiologic bite and function. Notice the change in the lower 1/3 of the face which is more youthful and not sagging.
This case shows how an overbite can be corrected conservatively to create a beautiful smile and relieve TMJ pain. Not only did this relieve pain it changed the patients lower 1/3 of her face which had collapsed due to the overbite. The retruded chin and aging appearance was corrected essentially created a non-surgical facelift with dental procedures. No braces or surgery needed.
The bite was addressed first with computer assisted analysis and comfort ascertained then porcelain used for long term stabilization. A combination of crowns and porcelain veneers was utilized.
Discolored and worn teeth are a telltale sign of age and a misaligned bite. One can look at this as a car out of alignment, simply replacing the tire will not correct the problem unless you align the car. Simply placing a crown on teeth does not align the bite. This is an interesting case as this gentleman presented with severe TMJ disorders and teeth that were worn, decayed, and misaligned. His TMJ pain included headaches, neck pain, trigeminal pain, and inability to chew well.
When his symptoms were resolved, Dr. Konig then addressed the smile. His newly found physiologic bite position was then used to create a beautiful, healthy, and functional smile design with full mouth reconstruction.

Yes, and interestingly we have had numerous patients come for smile design consults as they did not like their aging appearance or interestingly, did not like their appearance on ZOOM calls. This gentleman had several concerns with his smile:
When considering a smile makeover, one of the most overlooked considerations is evaluating what caused the teeth to breakdown in the first place. In this case, his misaligned bite which had caused excessive forces and wear on the front teeth. He was asymptomatic and no TMJ symptoms were present or noted on his CBCT scan so bite correction was incorporated into his smile design.
