Dr. Konig utilized his digital smile design to do a “test drive smile”. The final porcelain veneers were layered in shades for a beautiful appearance. The teeth were lengthened to the correct physiologic length for form, function, and esthetics. End result: a very happy guy with a confident smile.
This is an interesting case as this gentleman presented with severe TMJ disorders and teeth that were worn, decayed, and misaligned. His TMJ pain included headaches, neck pain, trigeminal pain, and inability to chew well.
When his symptoms were resolved, Dr. Konig then addressed the smile. His newly found physiologic bite position was then used to create a beautiful, healthy, and functional smile design with full mouth reconstruction.
Many factors go into planning these types of cases from chew cycle to contours, shade, and bite design. Every case is designed based on the individual.
End result is a very happy pain free patient with a captivating and life changing smile. Many call this a non-surgical facelift that can be done in the dental office, as it changes the lower one third of the face, reduces wrinkles, and aging.
This case portrays a young man who has always been unhappy with his tooth size, appearance and open bite that was uncomfortable. Each issue was addressed and Dr.Konig designed this smile to fit his face andto fulfill the patient’s desire for a natural appearing smile as well. Note the contours and natural flow of the veneers to blend in with the other teeth. Additionally, the lower teeth were conservatively whitened.
Dr Konig explains, ” Listening to the patient’s concerns and desires are paramount to successful outcomes in the eyes of patients, no two smiles should be alike.”

When considering a smile makeover, one of the most overlooked considerations is evaluating what caused the teeth to breakdown in the first place. In this case, his misaligned bite which had caused excessive forces and wear on the front teeth. He was asymptomatic and no TMJ symptoms were present or noted on his CBCT scan so bite correction was incorporated into his smile design.
Dr. Konig explains, “With all our smile makeover cases, we do a “test drive smile” for our patients. This allows patients to see the shade and shape on their teeth prior to fabricating the customized porcelain veneers.”
The final photos show the beautiful results along a with very comfortable and stable bite.

Short and worn teeth
