What Are the Different Types of Cosmetic Teeth?

Cosmetic teeth is a generic term used to describe many cosmetic dentistry options for changing or improving ones smile.  Cosmetic teeth can involve one or a combination of the followup types of cosmetic dental care:

  1. Dental Bonding
  2. Porcelain Veneers
  3. Porcelain Crowns
  4. Bridges
  5. Dental Implant Crowns
  6. Full or partial smile makeover

This smile makeover used several types of cosmetic teeth to create a new smile.

Dental bonding is often used to close small gaps between teeth or to perhaps change the size or color of a single tooth.  It is a resin like material in which multiple shades are overlaid on a tooth to create a match to the adjacent natural teeth.

Porcelain veneers can also be used in a similar manner, however, it is made of porcelain and fabricated in the laboratory.  These can be used for single or multiple teeth.  There is a definite artistic skill and technique involved with both bonding and porcelain to create lifelike “cosmetic teeth”  These are much stronger than bonding and less prone to staining.

Porcelain crowns are very similar to porcelain veneers but involve the whole tooth and not just the front of the tooth.  These are used when there is more extensive damage to tooth structure.  They can be used in conjunction with veneers when multiple teeth are involved or for a single tooth.  Once again, in the aesthetic zone, artistic skill and design are necessary to create natural affects.

Dental bridges to replace missing teeth by connecting crowns together.  If a more conservative method is desired to replace a missing tooth, dental implants can be utilized and dental implant crowns or bridges placed.

Finally, many refer to full smile makeovers as using cosmetic teeth to change the entire smile.  Smile makeovers can involve all the types of cosmetic teeth and can be life changing.
