Pregnancy and Dental Anesthetics

Recent reports have indicated that using local dental anesthetics is safe in for pregnant women.  The report concludes that they can take advantage of using these local anesthetics with confidence knowing it is safe.  The study was published in the Journal of the American Dental Association. The author, Aharon Hagai DDS, said the studies were conducted to see there was any significant risk associated with dental treatment with anesthetics and pregnancy outcomes and they did not find any.

This is good news for pregnant women as many women avoid the dentist trying to protect their children.  Keeping up with oral hygiene and dental health is very important and women should contineue to recieve dental care and preventive care especially since some women become more susceptible to decay and gum disease for various reasons.

It is always wise to check with your OB before any significant dental treatment is started.  If you have any questions regarding Houston Cosmetic Dentistry, please contact our office, Ronald W. Konig DDS, FAGD, LVIF,  713-668-2289.
