Porcelain Veneers and the Single Front Tooth

Patients often break a single front tooth and have a porcelain crown or porcelain veneer placed on the tooth.  Many times they do not like the cosmetics of this single tooth.  Can a single tooth be created to look natural? The answer is yes, it is certainly a challenging and skillful area of cosmetic dentistry, where art and science come into play.  Very often patients come and do not wish to do multiple teeth, they simply wish for the broken tooth to be fixed and look esthetically pleasing.

Broken Front Tooth Porcelain Veneer to Fix Broken Tooth

The case above was a basketball accident in which the left central incisor was fractured.  The patient was happy with his other teeth.  In this situation, there is no reason to involve multiple teeth.  The tooth was prepared for a single porcelain veneer.  The shading was color mapped and then custom shaded to the adjacent tooth.  In addition, the texture and glaze (shine) was created to mimic the adjacent tooth as well.
