The tongue is a powerful muscle! A patient with a tongue thrust can literally reshape the skeletal muscles of the mouth and cause misaligned bites. Oral myofunctional habits can be retrained with proper exercises. Some issues that can happen because of the tongue and or airway issues:
1) Open bites
2) Overbites
3) Underbites
4) Tongue Thrust
Seek guidance from your dentist or myofunctional therapy before or during any treatment. MFT is part of the equation to correcting these issues non-surgically. Treatments such as Anterior Guided Growth Appliances (AGGA) and TMJ therapy are often necessary as well.
