An article in the NY Times discusses recent research reports showing an antioxidant in chocolate appears to improve memory skills that some people lose as they age.
The research, conducted by scientists at Columbia University Medical Center, shows that healthy individuals who drank a mixture high in antioxidants called cocoa flavanols for three months performed better on memory tests with improvements about 25% better than those on low-flavanols.
The article discusses the study in more detail. In general, it appears the study was conducted to support research that linked flavanols to improved blood circulation, heart health and memory in mice.
