Government Reconfirms Importance of Flossing: The True Story

In the wake of last weeks media hype of flossing not being important for dental health, the American Dental Association (ADA).  This is simply not true and has the media has done a great disservice to the public by announcing this.

The ADA asked  the governmental issues why the 2015 guidelines did not include flossing.  The United States Department of Health and Human Services sent a statement that called “flossing an important oral hygiene practice” and said the guidelines lack of mentioning this did not imply otherwise.

The Department of Health and Human Services  stated that neither the 2010 or 2015 Advisory Committees reviewed evidence on brushing or flossing teeth that they decided not to carry forward the information listed in past recommendations. This is not implying that flossing is not an important oral hygiene regimen for ones health. It is funny how the media did not cover this followup outcome to help redirect the public with correct information.
