Dental implants are truly a wonderful technology that has given us the ability to more conservatively replace missing teeth, replace dentures and partials, and too help restore ones smile. There are numerous ways to utilize dental implants. There is definitely an esthetic component and learning curve to make dental implants cosmetically pleasing and to appear like the mother nature’s teeth. Replacing a single tooth can be functional and cosmetic! In past, patients would have issues with food impaction around their dental implant crowns. This was primarily due to using stock parts as opposed to custom designed parts. Custom designed parts allow: 1) Correct gum tissue profile 2) Correct level of crown placement 3) Allows us to shape the parts to the same shape as the natural root of the tooth as opposed to being 4mm and round like stock parts
Custom Implant Part for Function and Esthetics
The photo above illustrates how dental implants can also be used for cosmetic dentistry. Also, note that no metals were used to fabricate this, hence no dark lines on the implant crown. It is using these new technologies which we call custom abutments and all ceramic crowns with no metal such as Emax that allows for exceptional results on both ends, functional and esthetic.
