Bleaching Teeth: How to Choose the Correct System for You?

Teeth Whitening: How to Choose the Correct System for You

Teeth whitening continues to grow as most patients are interested in whiter teeth and are interested in cosmetic dentistry as well. There are probably at least four options for patients to choose from. I will attempt to clarify and elaborate on each of the four listed below to try and help patients decide what is best for them, these are listed from most effective to least effective.

However, they all work to some degree:

1) Power Bleaching: this is probably the only program that will work for tetracycline or grayish color, this involves 2 office visits and ten days at home. If you are happy with the shape, alignment , and size of your teeth, and only want whiter teeth, this might be your best option

2) Home Trays: these work with professional whitening solutions, however, beware of cheap trays which only work as well as Crest White Strips. The custom trays we make in our office

have space blocked out as a reservoir for the whitening solutions and are scored at the gumline to keep the bleach in the trays, they are hard not soft.

3) In office whitening: for those who do not have the discipline to follow through with home protocols or have sensitive teeth

4) Crest White strips: work to some degree if you can keep them in place and accept the fact you ingest the solution

Teeth Whitening is a conservative way to improve your smile. If it does not work to your satisfaction, consider other alternatives such as ceramic veneers.
