A Cup a Day Can Keep the Dentist Away

We’ve all heard that coffee stains teeth, but new research suggests that drinking black coffee in moderation can actually help stop tooth decay.  Cosmetic Dentist Dr. Konig reports the findings of researchers at Rio de Janeiro’s Federal University. Research found that coffee actively breaks down bacteria that cause dental plaques. Dental plaques then cause gum disease and tooth decay, so drinking coffee can prevent those things.

Researchers believe that the antioxidants in black coffee are responsible for the beneficial results, but added that more research is necessary to confirm this.  Moderation is key, and too much coffee consumption can still stain and negatively affect the teeth. Also, drinking coffee with milk, sweeteners or cream still have counterproductive effects.

Dental Implant Dentist Dr. Konig thinks that the natural beneficial chemicals will soon be extracted and put in toothpaste and other dental products taking preventive care to a new level. To sum it up: drinking black coffee in moderation can reduce the development of plaque and decay!
