Initially, she came to our office for Porcelain Veneers and was unaware that her misaligned bite was causing her headaches and worn teeth. This case changed from a Cosmetic Dentistry case what we call Functional Cosmetic Dentistry. It was about restoring harmony between the joints, the bite, and the muscles and creating a beautiful with proper lip support. This also changed the lower 1/3 of her face creating a more youthful appearance.
How did this help eliminate her headaches? Essentially, when the TMJs are stable and the bite is in the correct physiologic position, the body no longer has to compensate. Muscles relax. Inflammation settles. Function returns and headaches dissipate.
