HEADACHES and TMJ

HEADACHES AND TMJ

Due to the fact that our practice has a special interest in TMJ treatment, almost no day goes by that we do not see a patient who has been relentlessly searching for a headache or migraine remedy.

Today, a young lady came in with a history of migraines twice a month and most of the time she wakes up with them. Sure enough after clinical examination and discussion, she clearly has TMJ issues. Even though there is only a minor clicking sound, when we palpated some of the muscles connected to the jaw, she found it extremely painful. Further discussion revealed that she avoids many foods as they are tough to chew and tend to bother her jaws. Generally speaking, these are muscle tension headaches and are big clue to TMJ problems.

Not all dentists are qualified to treat TMJ or even have an interest in treating TMJ problems. It is for this reason that many patients have had appliances that do not work. The good news is that we can help patients with headaches and migraines and help provide long term relief as well.

If you have any questions about TMJ or Heachaches, we are a Houston TMJ Dentist that have special interest in TMJ, and welcome your questions. Please feel free to call us at 713-668-2289
