THE NOT SO PERFECT SMILE
Cosmetic dentistry is a a huge portion of the self improvement in the United States. For years, people saw famous actors on television with huge chiclet white smiles. Whereas this provided great exposure for esthetic dentistry, it actually kept many patients away due to the unnatural and standardized look.
In our practice, a lot of our cosmetic patients have favored the
creation of more natural looking esthetics (although still very white). Natural looking has several definitions: One is that the designs used fit the individual. Another is that they do not have to look like the same smile on every patient.
Artistic contouring and design along with newer porcelains allow for the creation teeth that seem to "flow"with the individual and are beautiful. In other words, creating "Not so Perfect Smiles" has been drawing a lot patients to our cosmetic care who were not interested in a denture look.
Dentists who have the artistic skills, proper porcelain techniques, and ability to see what works with the individual have a huge new niche to work with!
